Daily Program Structure

Each day follows a consistent, predictable schedule designed to support learning, engagement, and connection.

Arrival and Community: Transition time, snack, and welcoming activities that help youth settle in and feel connected after the school day.

Academic Support: Homework help and supported learning time that build focus, confidence, and strong learning habits.

Targeted Program: Core, hands‑on learning experiences that build skills over time through sequenced activities, strengthening impact through regular participation.

Choice & Pickup: Youth selected activity stations and a calm pick up period that help them wind down and end the day positively.

To enroll, click on your state, then select your child’s school. The online registration can be started and saved and completed at a later date.

The team is responsible for ensuring the Academy’s programming is consistent, impactful, and responsive to the needs of youth, families, and school communities.

Misty Miller

Principal Officer

Misty Miller is the Principal Officer of the Blue Door Academy, where she leads the initiative’s strategic vision, business expansion, and operational excellence. With more than 25 years of experience in youth development, nonprofit leadership, and organizational transformation, Misty is spearheading an innovative growth model designed to expand access, strengthen financial sustainability, and ensure every young person—across rural, suburban, and urban communities—has the opportunity to thrive through Boys & Girls Clubs.

Throughout her career, Misty has been a driving force behind record-breaking national growth, including guiding the movement’s expansion to more than 5,000 Club sites. She has led over 150 successful mergers and organizational integrations, shaping new, more sustainable operating models and improving the long-term health of local organizations. Misty has also been instrumental in elevating the strategy and support structure for the rural Club network, ensuring these communities—often the most resource-constrained—receive the tailored solutions they need to grow and thrive.

Carter Clark

Head of Operations & Business Development

Carter Clark is Head of Operations & Business Development for the Blue Door Academy. In this role, he leads business development efforts with local Boys & Girls Clubs, school systems and community partners to ensure successful market entry, operational readiness and long-term viability of the Academy model. Carter has over 40 years of experience, and most recently served as President & CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of the Crescent Region, where he oversaw 153 units spread over 22 counties in South Carolina. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Child Psychology from the University of Minnesota and an MBA from Georgia State University.

Tanisha Grimes, PhD

Head of Program Quality & Operations

Dr. Tanisha Grimes is Head of Program Quality & Operations, responsible for setting the vision and strategy to define and advance the Blue Door Academy’s core learning & enrichment program model. Previously, she served as National Vice President of Youth Development for BGCA, leading the redesign and integration of the organization’s national programs with a focus on reducing substance use and increasing character building and coping skills. She also serves as a Board Member of the National Afterschool Association (NAA), the largest professional afterschool professional network. She has over 25 years of experience developing, implementing and evaluating evidence-based skill-building programs for multiple communities within schools and in the out-of-school time space.

Kelly Drummond, EdD, PHR, SHRM-CP

Head of Talent Operations

Dr. Kelly Drummond serves as Head of Talent Operations and is responsible for designing, launching and operationalizing the People & Talent Development strategy for the Blue Door Academy. She has more than 30 years of experience in talent management systems across the public, nonprofit and education sectors. Kelly’s most recent experience was as Director of Human Resources (CHRO) for the City of Knoxville, TN, where she led human resources strategy for more than 2,000 employees. She has also served as Vice President of Human Resources for Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley and as Executive Director of the Tennessee Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs.

Meg Willis

Manager of Administration & Strategic Projects

Meg Willis is Manager of Administration & Strategic Projects, serving as the operational heartbeat of the Academy by turning strategy into action, connecting moving parts and ensuring the executive team can move with clarity and precision. She supports the building and execution of the Academy’s infrastructure, providing administrative leadership, project management and strategic coordination across initiatives. Previously, Meg supported BGCA’s Southeast Region and Enterprise Solutions teams, bringing a strong background in executive support, operations, communications and high-priority project execution.
